Thank you for participating in the Crisp SMS Beta
We're excited to offer this product that shows early signs of huge potential. Alpha testing partners have seen response rates >30% and a deliverability rate of over >97% for their SMS campaigns.
In this article, we'd like to walk you through
1. How do I setup my SMS marketing program?
2. How do I send messages?
3. Why should I use segments?
4. How does consent work?
5. How does billing work?
For all of these points of discussion, we'll also touch on what is available in the beta release - and what features you can expect to see rolled out in the near future.
You will be able to turn on your SMS marketing features beginning Tuesday January 20th 2026.
How do I setup my SMS marketing program?
You can enable SMS marketing by navigating to Admin > Crisp Billing > Plan >
Currently the "limits" here will not effect your daily budget, or per user message limit. If you are using this feature in beta please ensure your marketing team is aware of this. You will be billed for all usage of the SMS product.
If you encounter the message: "Your account is not ready for Marketing SMS. Please reach out to support for details and instructions on getting your account ready" Your registration with carriers has not been completed. We'll need to work with you to update details about your business with carriers. Typically this is because you do not have a compliant privacy policy accessible on your website.
How do I send messages?
If you're familiar with sending marketing messages through your mobile app, you'll have no problem sending SMS messages. Watch the video below for an explanation of setting up SMS messages.
If you're less familiar or would like a refresher, you can watch our videos on sending blast campaigns.
Why should I use segments?
Thoughtful messaging results in higher engagement (ROI) and lower opt-out rates. Using segments allows you to target messages at customers with specific behavior patterns and also controls the cost per campaign. Keep in mind that the cost controls for campaigns are not active yet, and you will need to monitor your own usage.

How does consent work?
We're proud to offer enterprise-grade compliance for marketing SMS opt-ins.
Generally, customers can opt-in to you SMS program in one of three ways.
1. Signing a consent form on the POS during a loyalty sign-up in-store. You should train your team on this consent form (which should never be signed by an employee). Learn more about this signup form here.
Please make sure that your team updates their devices to version 1.18.290+ to utilize the Marketing SMS opt-in flow. (Available Monday Jan 19 2026)
2. By opting into SMS during an online or mobile app signup.
3. By texting YES to your phone number. This phone number is unique to your brand and is not currently listed on your Crisp Portal. If you'd like to know this number you can reach out to Crisp Support.
For a more thorough explanation of the SMS Marketing opt-in program you can read our article here.
How does billing work?
Billing for SMS segments occurs post-monthly. Your corporate store will receive an invoice for all SMS segments that were delivered.
SMS segments are billed at
$0.02/delivered message segment ($20/1000)
$0.002/failed message segment($2/1000)
Your invoice will include a breakdown for each campaign.
What's coming next?
We're excited to be able to give you early access to these tools for engaging your customers, but we're not done building yet. We have many improvements to the program that are actively under construction including:
1. Budget limits - at both a brand and campaign level.
2. Billing controls - today all segments are billed to corporate, in the future you will be able to assign campaign costs to specific stores.
3. Detailed campaign data - Insight on SMS vs App notification, delivery, total costs, and opt-out rates.
