Performing a Cash Drop
To perform a Cash Drop, tap the 3 lines in the top left corner of the POS > tap Management then tap Cash Drop.
On the next screen, enter in the Start Till at the top then count your drawer and enter the amounts of coins & bills into the matching fields. This count will make up your Drawer Total in the Cash Drop Formula at the bottom of the page.
The Tip Jar field will not add to your Drawer Total, but must still be counted as it is added to the Tip Report on the Dashboard. It is also recommended to keep your cash tips separate from your cash drawer's bills/coins to prevent confusion.
Once you are done counting your drawer, the cash drop formula at the bottom will be used to calculate how much your cash drop should be and how much it's over/under by.
After you've confirmed the amount, tap the green Drop Cash button at the bottom right of the screen to complete the Cash Drop.
Once the Cash Drop is done, a receipt should print that lists the following information:
- Register Name
- Employee Name
- Register start and end time
- Expected (The amount calculated from all cash sales taken on devices linked to the specific register)
- Actual (The amount actually in the drawer after the employee counts it)
- Difference (The difference between the Expected and Actual amounts)
If the Register name says All instead of a register name (Counter, Drive-Thru, etc) then the POS didn't have a register assigned.
My cash drop is different then my cash sales. What happened?
Your cash sales reported will not always match your cash drops. While this may sound strange, there are a few reasons as to why these discrepancies can occur:
- Wrong change being given to customers will make your drawer count fluctuate higher/lower then sales
- Tips and/or leftover change being placed directly into the register will make your drawer count higher then your sales.
- Cash or Coin being moved between the registers and safe
- Example: If Register A needs $5 in quarters and those coins are taken from Register B without Register A giving a $5 bill back, A will be $5 higher then Sales and B will be $5 lower then Sales.
If money is taken out of the drawer, this is fraud and will result in the sales being higher then the drawer count.
- In these cases, you can see who performed a Cash Drop on the Store Overview page on the dashboard to identify potential fraud.
Discrepancies like this happen everyday, so it's important to physically count your cash and compare it to your sales total to find and fix these issues. Cash Drops should only happen once at the end of the day after the register is closed and is no longer taking money.
Missing Cash Drops can cause serious accounting errors, so Crisp will automatically trigger a Cash Drop at 6am (local time) the following day for any register that have payments but are missing a Cash Drop.
